Embracing the ‘Spiral Line’: Exploring the Dance of the Body

July 2, 2023 by Laurent Roure Leave a Comment

Spiralling movements in our body are natural and essential for maintaining a healthy posture. Our tissues, including connective tissues, exhibit spiral patterns, such as the spiralling shape of our heart and DNA. This post will focus on the “spiral line” role within our connective tissues.

The term “spiral line” pertains to a concept in the field of fascia, a connective tissue that envelops and supports various structures in our body, such as muscles, organs, and bones. Fascia is composed of collagen fibres and possesses a web-like structure that enables it to transmit forces and provide structural integrity.

Breathing in the Back Meditation: Finding Calm and Serenity.

June 11, 2023 by Laurent Roure 1 Comment

Have you ever thought about how we conduct ourselves and move in life?

We are often told that we are looking a lot into the future and planning or projecting too much ahead. We are ‘frontal creatures.’ The concept that human beings are ‘forward-thinking’ and moving “frontal creatures” likely refers to the unique features and functions of the frontal lobe in the human brain.

10 Reasons why we all need to learn how to breathe properly.

March 21, 2023 by Laurent Roure 1 Comment

This reflection is centred around our yoga, movement, breathwork, and meditative practice and how it all ties in with our daily lives.

Having participated in more active and forceful yoga methods for decades and teaching them as well, I now find myself taking a step back and offering much more mindful and slower styles, and I can see the benefits of doing less.

Positive versus negative tension during our yoga, breathwork and meditation practice.

October 9, 2022 by Laurent Roure Leave a Comment

Hands in tension

I often explore the idea of ‘tension’ in classes.

I have seen too many injuries, struggles, and discouragements that could have been avoided. As human beings, we often think that we thrive by trying too hard and pushing our limits- we end up not getting anywhere and failing our practice.

Why is it essential to connect with your breath?

September 26, 2021 by Laurent Roure Leave a Comment

Connect with the breath

Breathing is natural for all of us, although most of us only ever breathe subconsciously, failing to realise the benefits of breathing well.  So many of us do not connect with our breath on a more conscious level.

If we had the knowledge and ability to raise our awareness and connect with our breathing patterns, we would feel more connected with our physical body and mind. For example, a shallow breath may suggest that we are not entirely comfortable in our body or have peace of mind.
